Match Report: Burnham 2 v 3 Holyport
Port dig in to secure win....
After Saturday's heavy defeat in the FA Vase and a few injuries Holyport made a host of changes to the starting line up as Marques, Davies, Defranco, Lowther and Hedges all came in to start.
For those arriving late like myself you would have missed the opening goal of the game on 2 minutes as a good flowing move by Holyport lead to new signing Michael Davies scoring the opening goal and his first in a claret shirt. The game was being played at a frantic pace with the 6 for Burnham dictating their play and the 11 using his youthful pace to cause problems. But as Burnham looked to find a way back into the game Fabian Driffill scored a fantastic solo goal as he drifted past the Burnham defenders before slotting home on 9 minutes.
With the game flying end to end Burnhams best chances were coming from set pieces as the 6 tested Aman Singha from range. On 23 minutes Barry Dunbar found the net with a powerful strike which flew in at the nearpost.
The better of the chances in the opening halve fell to Holyport as Driffill ghosted through but shot wide when well placed. On 42 minutes great closing by Joshua Lowther won the ball back and his shot was pushed into Driffills path to make it 3-1 to Port at the break.
Burnham came out a better side in the second half and started to create the better chances as numerous crosses flew across the box but thankfully no one was there to slot home.
On 67 minutes Holyport missed a chance to clear their lines and from 12 yards the forward shot home it make it 3-2 and game on.
Burnham pushed forward and Sangha produced a class close range save to deny an equaliser, then Port had to defend a sustained period of busy which sure numerous players through themselves at flying shots. From this Port broke and a Nicholls shot was palmed away by the Burnham goalkeeper.
Burnham then had another chance but Sangha produced a fine save to tip the shot around the post.
Holyport run the clock down in Burnhams half to go through and face a home tie against Virginia Water.
