Match Report Holyport FC
Winslow united 2 Holyport 1
Holyport’s FA Vase campaign, followed in the same vein as their FA cup exploits falling at the first hurdle, this time to a spirited Winslow side who although two steps lower in the football pyramid, fully deserved their passage though to the next round. Holyport’s woes were further compounded by a bad facial injury to the unfortunate striker Jamie Wright who suffered a fractured cheekbone after an accidental head to shoulder clash while challenging for a high ball 12 minutes into the game, resulting in a 35 minute hold up and an ambulance to Stoke Manderville Hospital.
Winslow started by taking the game to the visitors and were 1-0 up after only 4 minutes courtesy of some very poor defending exploited by United’s skipper PHIL MARTIN. The lesson was not heeded and MICHAEL AINGER made it 2-0 six minutes later. Then followed the long hold up after which CARL REEVES gave the visitors a glimmer of hope forcing home after a Dan Rapley corner had caused panic in the home defence. The second half remained goalless despite an improved attempt and an injection of life from subs Codie Sumner and Mitchell Scavaci.
Port: Murphy, Ovens, Deverall, Reeves, Wall, Coull, Stokes, Jefferies, Wright, Driver, Rapley. Subs: Sumner, Scavaci, Maye, Bradley.
Holyport Football Club would like to thank Winslow United for their help and understanding during the hold up, special praise must also go to the Holyport therapist DAVE JONES and the Para medics and the ambulance crew from the NHS. |
