Holyport 3 v 2 Fairford Town
Half time 2 v 1
Holyport scorers: Handscomb 36 & 61, Deverall 13
Holyport coming off a good away win at Witney United on Saturday were looking for back to back wins and to leap up the table. With a strong cross wind affecting the play both sides were struggling and it was the first chance of the game which saw Holyport take the lead. Handscomb released Deverall with a great pass into his stride, Deverall shot first time from the edge of the box and gave Holyport the lead.
Fairford were then forced into making a sub and the number 14 who came on began to cause Holyport trouble with his pace and clever runs. It was the Fairford who then had a good ten minute spell and got their deserved equaliser. The 14 collected a through ball and rounded Murphy to slot home.
This goal actually got Holyport going again and from then on Holyport had several good chances to get back in front. Rapley was released by Handscomb only for the keeper to save, Driver then had a close shot saved from a well worked free kick and Handscomb hit the side netting. The goal finally came in the 36th minute as Handscomb turned his man and shot into the bottom corner.
During injury time Holyport had a shot which appeared to cross the line not given much to Holyport's dismay.
The second half started with Fairford looking stronger and trying to get back into the game. Murphy had to make two saves early on. Just like the first half many moves were breaking down it was quite scrappy but in the 61st minute Deverall beat his man to the byline and delivered a great cross for Handscomb to tap home to make it 3-1.
Holyport then had enough chances to make the game comfortable but chances went begging and in the 90th minute Fairford had a free kick right on the edge of the area. The Fairford player simply smashed this home to make it 3-2.
This was in truth a comfortable win but once again chances went begging which against the 'bigger' sides just can't be missed.
