Holyport go down to Moles...

Match Report Holyport FC

Saturday 18th Feb

Uhlsport Hellenic League

Holyport 1 (Jerrum 2) v Binfield 2 (Davies 6, 46)

Holyport started the brighter of the two sides and with Ports first attack of the game they opened the scoring.  A Britnell ball found Rapley, Rapley beat Woozley into the box and squared for the on rushing Sturgess.  Sturgess dummied for Jerrum who was unmarked at the back post, Jerrum blasted home from 6 yards to give Port a shock lead.

Rapley continued to cause trouble out wide and another cross was put into the Binfield box but it evaded everyone.

With Holyport seemingly comfortable a nothing long ball caused Carter all sorts of problems.  Not sure weather to clear or collect on the edge of his box Ian Davies nicked in and stole it from him.  With Carter beaten Davies passed into an open net.  This knocked Holyport and Binfield started to probe, Davies once again was the main threat but this time Carter stood tall and saved, Heywood then had to be alert to block the follow up.

Heywood had a blocked shot by Callaway that seemed goal bound but Binfield had created the slightly better chances during the half.

Both sides continued to play passing football in driving rain and wind.

Just as the crowd had taken their seats Binfield had taken the lead, again it was more of Holyports doing than Binfields plYy that created the goal.  Heywood misjudged a long ball as it skidded through the turf and set Davies through.  In fairness to Davies finished very well past Carter to give Binfield a 2-1 lead.

Holyport had the majority of procession as the half progressed as Binfield played on the counter attack.  Jerrum was brought down on the edge of the box, Sturgess lined up the free kick and Dan Weait pulled of the save of the season at Summerleaze this season as he somehow palmed Sturgess's free kick out of the top corner.

Port continued to press and a Wright flick hit the post with Weait watching, then from the follow up JP Jamil had to hack a shot clear on the Binfield goal line.

In the 85th minute Carter was dismissed for two cautions as he pushed Davies off the ball and then called the referee a joke.  Britnell claimed the gloves and was untested in the remaining minutes.

Holyport were slightly disappointed not to claim a share of the points and will move on to Reading Town on Tuesday night.
