AM Print & Copy Floodlit Cup – Round 3
Holyport 0 v 0 Maidenhead (4-5 on Pens)
In what can only be described as a dire game for the neutral Holyport slumped to their fifth home defeat on the spin, losing their grip on the Floodlit Cup in the process.
It was a game of few chances and lacking quality. Holyports first chance was a Handscomb free kick which was parried by the keeper on 6 minutes. Handscomb was involved again as he released Driver but the Maidenhead defender made a good last ditch tackle before Driver could shoot.
It took 20 minutes before Maidenhead had their first attempt on goal and it took two blocks from efforts 10 yards out to prevent them taking the lead. It was a half of half chances as Coull, Bailey and Jeffries all had half chances to give Holyport the lead but they could not hit the target.
The second half did not improve and Maidenhead looked dangerous on the counter attack but the best chance of the half came to Driver. A Handscomb header found Driver unmarked and from 6 yards out but he headed wide. The Magpies then counter attacked and shot over.
As the half wore on Handscomb had two shots parried on 63 and 64, as previous Maidenhead then broke from their keepers save shot wide.
The game continued through to extra time with neither side making the break through and penalties decided the outcome with Maidenhead wining 5 - 4 and probably just edging the result.
Team Carter, Ovens (c), Britnell, Bailey, Rolfe (Dexter), Jerrum, Rapley, Coull, Jeffries (Butler), Driver (Wright) & Handscomb.
