Binfield 2 (Suarez 29,89) v 2 Holyport (Handscomb 76 Britnell 90)
Honours Even
Holyport will count themselves lucky that they were still in this game and only one nil down at the break as Binfield had several good chances to put the game to bed inside the first 45 minutes.
On only 4 minutes a set piece wasn’t cleared and a header was put over by Binfiled, then on 15 minutes Bateman had Binfield’s their first shot on target which Bradley saved. Port were struggling to link up their passing and were very disjointed as Binfield retained procession and won all the second balls.
Binfields first good chance came in the 20th minute as Ian Davies was put through only for Bradley to save well. Holyport then had their first chance as Deverall got through but could not control his touch which run through to Weait in Binfield’s goal.
For all of Binfield’s pressure they finally got the goal they deserved in the 27th minute, yet again Holyport failed to clear a set piece and Suarez collected the ball at the back post and volleyed it home.
Holyport then allowed Ian Davies to collect a Millward header and with only Bradley to beat he put his effort wide. From this moment on Holyport slowly found their feet in the game and Handscomb nearly headed a Deverall free kick home on 35 minutes, then in the next minute Rapley had a weak shot saved. Binfield then headed up the other end and had chances through the dangerous Suarez and Ian Davies.
On the stroke of half time Handscomb whistled a free kick over.
Whatever happened in Ports dressing room at half time obviously worked as Holyport came out and took the game to Binfield, although Holyport still had to be on their toes as Heyward had to make a great last ditch tackle in the 49th minute to prevent a second Binfield goal. From then on Holyport created some good openings as Rapley shot over in the 52nd minute, Deverall had a great cross cleared at the back post in the 54th with Rapley closing in on a tap in.
Carl Davies then had a shot saved by Bradley as both sides pushed men forward in search of goals. Weait then had to palm over a Handscomb header in the 61st minute, four minutes later and Holyport had a penalty appeal turned down as Driver went down under a challenge.
Holyport’s best chance came in the 67th minute when Rapley’s shot which was goal bound was somehow deflected wide with Weait stranded in Binfield’s goal. On 76 minutes, Port got their goal they deserved, a cross from Ovens wasn’t cleared and Driver beat Weait to the ball. Drivers header was goal bound but Binfield’s Jewell managed to head it onto the bar, this then rebounded off Handscomb and into the net.
In the 83rd minute Handscomb was in action again as a great free kick hit the post and rebounded to Driver but he could not react quick enough to tap it home. Handscomb then broke clear and with only Weait to beat from a tight angle his shot across goal drifted wide of the post.
With both sides pushing for the winner a goal was going to come and Suarez popped up again in the 89th minute with his second of the game to make it four goals in two games. Holyport were not to be beaten and they pushed on looking for an equaliser.
With the clock in injury time a Handscomb free kick wasn’t cleared and Ryan Britnell volleyed home to get Holyport a much deserved point.
